Mount Cook Adventure Centre
Near The National Stone Centre
Porter Lane
Derbyshire, DE4 4LS

Come along and join in the family fun
Every year, Headlines members are invited to join us at our Family Weekend. This year the weekend will take place at Mount Cook Adventure Centre in Derbyshire. We have exclusive use of the venue for the whole weekend.

Mount Cook is a brand new not-for-profit Adventure Centre, based on the outskirts of the Peak District. It is a purpose built, eco-friendly Centre and provides a mixture of on and offsite activities. The weekend gives families the opportunity to get together to share advice and support, to make new friends and have fun!

Activities (for ages 6 and over)
Mount Cook uses the spectacular natural environment surrounding the Centre to provide access to a range of exciting outdoor adventure activities and learning. Children will take part in activities in small groups led by qualified instructors. The activities can be differentiated to cater for all abilities and skills.

We are planning the activities but this is a taste of what could be included:

Archery, High-Ropes, Team Challenges, Fossil Hunting & Gem-Panning, Exploration Walks and Orienteering, Water Sports, Caving, Rock-Climbing & Abseiling, Bush Craft & Den-Building.

Childcare and activities for younger children
A team of Play Specialists from Oxford Children’s Hospital will be there to provide clubs for the younger children. The clubs will provide a range of fun and interactive activities, including crafts and games. The children may also be able to take part in Fossil Hunting & Gem-Panning and enjoy outdoor games and walks.

Children may also have the opportunity to visit the nearby Steeple Grange Light Railway and enjoy a “Headlines exclusive” 20-minute train ride through dramatic limestone scenery

Evening activities
Campfire night – build a campfire, sit under the stars and toast some marshmallows!

Indoor evening entertainment may include a quiz night, disco or film!

The Annual General Meeting is also held at the weekend. The work and the achievements of the charity are reported and the Committee is elected for the following year. If you are interested in joining the Board of Trustees, please contact us directly.

Basic dormitory style bedrooms - for four guests with ensuite bathrooms. For larger families, please note some bedrooms do have extra pull out beds. If you have a baby you can bring your own travel cot, but please let us know.

Eco-Friendly Glamping Pods - Located just outside the Centre, the eco-friendly glamping pods provide alternative accommodation. Each pod sleeps 4 guests, in bunk-bed style accommodation with private toilet and wash basin. Shower block facilities are located on the ground-floor of the Centre. Glamping pods are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis. If fully booked, then accommodation in the main centre will be offered.

Unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer camping as an option. In order to have exclusive use of the Centre for the whole weekend, we are committed to filling a minimum number of bedrooms.

Full catering included (servery style catering in the main dining hall).

Cost for the whole weekend (Glamping or Bedroom):
Food, accommodation, activities and childcare are all included.

Adult (age 18 and over): £75
Child (age 3-17): £50
Infants are free.

The weekend will start with arrivals on the Friday after 3pm and include evening dinner at 6pm. Please arrive in time for dinner. If you will be later than this, let us know. The weekend will finish after lunch on the Sunday.

If you wish to stay in the locality on the Sunday afternoon, there are lots of interesting places to visit. Details will be provided.

Deposit of 20% of total cost to be paid no later than 3 March 2017.
Balance of payment to be paid on or before 7 April 2017.
